Meaning of Jawhara
Jawhara is an indirect Quranic name for girls that means “essence”, “precious stone”. It is derived from the J-H26-R root (visibility, clearness, loudness) which is used in many places in the Quran:
I then called them openly. Then I conveyed the message to them, again, both in public and in private, and I said: “‘Ask your Sustainer to forgive you your sins – for, verily, He is all-forgiving!” (Quran 71:8-10)
God does not like any evil to be mentioned openly, unless it be by him who has been wronged (thereby) And God is indeed all-hearing, all-knowing, (Quran 4:148)

Jawhara and its various offshoots is not of Arabic origin. It’s a Berber name. It may have originated in Ancient Egypt. The Ancient Egyptians were genetically Berbers. Originally (circa 1600-1400 BCE) a personal name, over the centuries it became a tribal name, a surname, a place name and name of a language (see Zuwara in Libya and Tunisia). The famous Queen Kahina was the ruler of the Jerewa tribal confederation in modern-day Algeria. My surname is Gwira which is pronounced Jwira.
