Can you kindly guide me as to from where in the Quran, the name Azwaa is derived from? As per your earlier explanations, it means "Rays of Light".

Answer

This is an official answer by QuranicNames.com Staff

Azwaa is more literally Adhwaa, but since dh is hard to pronounce, both for Arabs and non-Arabs, the common spelling and pronunciation is Azwaa. It is not directly mentioned in the Quran, but it is root is DHAD-W-HAMZ which is used in a number of places in the Quran, as in the word dhiyaa in three places:

Say: “Have you ever considered [this]: If God had willed that there should always be night about you, without break, until the Day of Resurrection - is there any deity other than God that could bring you light? Will you not, then, listen [to the truth]?” (28:71)

We gave Moses and Aaron the criterion of right and wrong and a light and reminder for the righteous (Quran 21:48)

He it is who has made the sun a [source of] radiant light and the moon a light [reflected], and has determined for it phases so that you might know how to compute the years and to measure [time]. None of this has God created without [an inner] truth. Clearly does He spell out these messages unto people of [innate] knowledge. (Quran 10:5)

It is also used in the verb yudhee' (produces light, radiates, glows):

Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth. The similitude of His light is as a niche wherein is a lamp. The lamp is in a glass. The glass is as it were a shining star. (This lamp is) kindled from a blessed tree, an olive neither of the East nor of the West, whose oil would almost glow forth (of itself) though no fire touched it. Light upon light. Allah guideth unto His light whom He will. And Allah speaketh to mankind in allegories, for Allah is Knower of all things. (Quran 24:35)
