Salam I need help choosing a name for my newborn baby boy. I liked the name zaryaab and was told that it was a name of a sahabi. Would like to ask if its right and also whats the meaning of it and is it a quranic name? Also is zarhaab also a name?
Answer
Alaikumassalam wa rahmatullah,
Zaryaab is a Farsi word formed from Zar (gold) and Aab (water), which means "gold water", which refers to what is known as colloidal gold in English, the type of gold that is dissolved in a chemical so that it is liquid. It is not the name of a Sahabi to my knowledge, the most famous person of this name is the Abul Nafi known as Ziryaab, who was an Iranian musician and scholar who lived in the Abbasid era.
Since the meaning of Zaryaab is not bad, Muslims can use it.
I haven't seen Zarhaab anywhere. If you remove the "h" and pronounce it as Zar-aab, it will have the same meaning as Zaryaab above.
