Salaam. Can I name my daughter Ellie (variant of Iliya) even though it is the exact same spelling of a popular Christian name Ellie (short for Elizabeth). Is this acceptable by scholars. Zazzakhlla for your answer.

Ellie is a Turkish variant of Iliya and it actually has the same pronunciation. However, you can use Ellie and pronounce it like the Christian name, if you like. All of these are acceptable. Many scholars do not recommend having names that are the same as or sound like Christian names, but this is not a prohibition, just a discouragement, and the Prophet himself ﷺ had a wife with a Christian name (Maria) and he didn't change her name.
