Full Meaning of Betul
Betul is an indirect Quranic name for girls that means “ascetic”, “devoted to God”, “pious virgin”. Christians use it to refer to Mary/Maryam, mother of Prophet Jesus/Isa peace be upon him, while Muslims, both Sunni and Shiite, use it as a nickname for Fatima, daughter of Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah upon him and his family and companions, due to her pious and ascetic character. Betul is derived from the B-T-L root which is used twice in Surat al-Muzzammil (chapter 73 of the Quran):
And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with [complete] devotion.
