marwan is an arabic origin name and a male name the rw letters in the middle of the name is the root of riwa and riwa means water in arabic language so marwan means a male person before thirsty and then after finding water and drinking the water he is not thirsty anymore he is full of water in the desert also the female name marwa is from the same root and it is one of the names of our great prophet mohammad the info is true because ı am arab origin

No, I don’t think it comes from ‘riwa’. The template of marwan is فعلان, exactly like burhan, ħafyan, 3atshan etc… and it is always an adjective. (Burhan may have developed the meaning of ‘proof’, but originally it is an adjective. Its root is b-r-h (longevity, eternity, timelessness) and the adjective meant probably “the one who lives long” — a logical baby name, in those times). I think the original root of Marwan is m-r-ʔ (ʔ = hamza). In some old nouns that the hamza can change for a ‘w’ or a ‘y’ (depending on the vowel preceding it). The root m-r-ʔ is that of murūʔa, which means “manhood, chivalry, sens of honour”. I think it’s a logical name to give your son.
