Meaning of Sariya
Sariya is an indirect Quranic name for girls that means “clouds that come at night”, “night traveler”, “rain that falls at night”. It is derived from the S-R-A root which is used in the first verse of Surat al-Isra’ (The Night Journey), which is chapter 17 of the Quran:
Limitless in His glory is He who carried by night His servant from the Inviolable House of Worship [at Mecca] to the Remote House of Worship [, at Jerusalem] – the environs of which We had blessed -so that We might show him some of Our symbols: for, verily, He alone is all-hearing, all-seeing. (Quran 17:1)
