Full Meaning of Shamce

Shamce is the Arabic word for the sun. It is grammatically a feminine noun and is more commonly used for girls, but it can also be found as a name for boys. It is mentioned about 35 times in the Quran. It is also the name of Surah 91 of the Quran. This Surah is named after the sun and contains 15 oaths, starting with:

“By the sun and its brightness”

It presents:

• A focus on cosmic order

• A contrast between purity and corruption

• The moral consequences of human choice

Quranic Verses

…Abraham said, “Indeed, Allah brings up the sun from the east, so bring it up from the west.” So the disbeliever was overwhelmed [by astonishment], and Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people. (2:258)

“So when [Prophet Ibrahim]  saw the sun rising, he said, ‘This is my lord; this is greater.’ But when it set, he said, ‘O my people, indeed I am free from what you associate with Allah.’ Indeed, I have turned my face toward He who created the heavens and the earth, inclining toward truth, and I am not of those who associate others with Allah.”
