2. Detailed Meaning of Abdul Quddus
Abdul Quddus is an indirect Quranic name for boys that means “servant of the Sacred One”, “servant of the Pure One”, i.e. servant of Allah subhanahu wa ta`ala. It is made up of Abd (servant, slave) and al-Quddus, “the Sacred One”, “the Holy One”, “the Perfect One”, which is one of the 99 names of Allah and is mentioned twice in the Quran:
He is Allah, than Whom there is no other Allah, the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One, Peace, the Keeper of Faith, the Guardian, the Majestic, the Compeller, the Superb. Glorified be Allah from all that they ascribe as partner (unto Him). (Quran 59:23)
Whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth declares the glory of Allah, the King, the Holy, the Mighty, the Wise. (Quran 62:1)
Even though both Abd and Quddus are mentioned directly in the Quran, we consider Abdul Quddus an indirect Quranic name because the two words are not mentioned directly besides each other in the Quran.
