  • in reply to: Meaning of Minha mariyam #117358

Minha means “gift” and Mariyam is another spelling of Mariam. The two names together do not create a new meaning.

  • Kanz is Arabic for “treasure”. As for Kinz, we cannot find such a word in Arabic or Persian sources.

  • in reply to: Shifa or Shifah – Which one has a better meaning #118479

    Sharjeel

    Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh Brother/Sister,

I want to name my daughter Shifa which has beautiful meaning (Arabic for “cure”, “healing”, “remedy”) and is indirectly mentioned in the Holy Quran multiple times. Please provide some feedback if I add ‘h’ after Shifa changing it to Shifah. Does it changes the meaning of it and/or the gender it is referring to? Thanks,

    Keep me in your prayers,

    Jazakallah khair and Khuda Hafez

Alaikumassalam wa rahmatullah, Rayyan is an acceptable name for Muslim babies. For its meaning see: Rayyan. Here is a fatwa (Arabic) from IslamWeb (which is one of the most trusted Islamic sites) that says that Rayyan is an acceptable Muslim name.

  • in reply to: Inaya #119062

@Raniya: Inayah/Inaya is the standard form of the name. Inayat is the Turkish derivation of the Arabic name. They all have the same meaning.

Alaikumassalam wa rahmatullah, We have created the page for Rabia, please see: Rabiah

  • in reply to: Shifa or Shifah – Which one has a better meaning #119083

    Alaikumassalam wa rahmatullah wa barakatuh,

Shifa is actually a directly mentioned Quranic name, we have corrected the article.

Shifa does not have an “h” sound at the end and adding it would change the meaning to “lips”, being the plural of Shafah (“lip”).

    Wassalam
